LA Secure: Award-Winning Cybersecurity Bridges the Digital Divide
The saying that “no good deed goes unpunished” often proves to be true. That’s why when good deeds actually get recognized and awarded, it is especially nice to see. It is within this context that we were delighted to hear the news about an award being given for LA Secure.
As outlined in our recent post, LA Metro and the City of Los Angeles have partnered with Zimperium to provide a free mobile threat protection application called LA Secure. The good news is that this work was indeed recognized and has been given the Excellence in Cybersecurity Award from the Advanced Technology Academic Research Center (ATARC).
The awards given by ATARC, known as the GITEC Emerging Technology Awards, are focused on recognizing government teams and initiatives that have “made significant contributions in the advancement and implementation of technology innovations.” Specifically, the Excellence in Cybersecurity Award spotlights government teams who “exemplified excellence in government cybersecurity through contributions to programs that protect critical data and systems.” (To learn more about this year’s GITEC Emerging Technology Award winners, be sure to visit the ATARC site.)
Delivering Mobile Threat Protection to Boost Digital Equity
We’re delighted to see that the team at LA Metro received much-deserved recognition for the tremendous work they’ve done and their commitment to boosting digital equity for all its passengers.
Many of LA Metro’s transit customers are highly reliant upon free public WiFi. The teams at LA Metro recognized that, while offering free public WiFi to bus passengers was a good start, it wasn’t enough. The reality is that public WiFi can be a virtual landmine for end users. If only a small subset of users had the awareness and means to safeguard their data and devices when using the WiFi, the team knew they’d fall short of leveling the digital playing field.
Powered by Zimperium, the LA Secure app gives users free access to persistent, on-device protection for their mobile devices. This mobile threat protection app protects users from a range of threats, including phishing, malicious applications, and device compromise. We are excited that this initiative is being acknowledged and congratulate the City of LA for this recognition.
